Training for representatives of the Secretariat of the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights

On March 13, 2018, a training programme “EU Law, Association Agreement, Council of Europe standards and their application in the sphere of human rights” for representatives of the Secretariat of the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights was held by the EU-funded project Association4U.

The training was delivered by the Senior Legal Approximation Fellow Dr. Oksana Holovko-Havrysheva, who provided an in-depth review of issues of human rights in the EU.

Given the cross-cutting nature of human rights, the training covered the following topics:

  • aspects of the Association Agreement in the sphere of human rights;
  • EU policy in the sphere of human rights protection and its correlation with other EU policies;
  • how human rights are legally regulated in the EU;
  • international legal instruments in the sphere of human rights protection and correlation with the EU Law.

Participants also discussed the correlation between EU Law and the standards of the Council of Europe in the sphere of human rights. The training content was enhanced by a discussion of a significant amount of actual cases reviewed by the European Court of Justice.
