Training “Relations with the Media” for government institutions with Matthew Green

On March 21-22, the EU-funded project Association4U with the support of the Ministry of Information Policy gathered representatives of the Ukrainian government institutions for a training on relations with the media.

During the 1.5-day long training, representatives of communication components of 16 Ukrainian ministries and other governmental institutions received theoretical tips on defining their target audiences and communicating key messages followed by a practice of giving interviews for the press, radio and TV broadcast.

One of the key points that the employees of press components of the Ukrainian ministries have learned is that properly reacting to questions by journalists is no less important than answering them. It is crucial to stay within key messages for target audience while giving an interview, even if the questions are tricky or intend to defame the institution.

The trainees have also learned how to prepare for the interview and what to do afterward and how to boost self-confidence.

The training was conducted by the Association4U’s short-term expert, communication director of Ecorys, Matthew Green. The trainer has almost 20 years of experience in the field of communications. Matthew has delivered media training to EU officials and MEPs, has overseen almost 50 EU-funded communication projects worldwide, worked as a communications official at EU delegations in Ukraine and Japan.
